Dear Parents,

Just like you, I’m a parent of two school-aged children. Just like you, I worry about the quality of their education. Just like you, I want the best for them. Just like you, I worry about not doing enough to give them the best ‘roots and wings’.

But secretively, I have a weapon. In 2002, after graduating from University of Arizona with a doctorate in Optical Science, I started Door-2-Math, a math coaching business where everyday I help to rebuild children’s math confidence. Since then, I’ve worked with over hundreds of students and slowly, like a watching a film develop in the dark room, a pattern develops.

This pattern records a child’s math history, detailing the developmental milestones, headaches, heartaches, communication patterns, and in some cases, life altering events. It is as if I have in my hand a fast-forward button: one child’s defeated battle at 4th grade grow into next child’s insurmountable obstacle at end of 10th grade.

Parent, be aware! Time proves that in the end, we are the ones left at the door waiting for our children’s attention; not the other way around.

This blog is one Mom’s attempt to record, in slow motion, what’s going on in our children’s world.
